I believe many are. There are a lot of things that do go on behind the scenes, having done MANY of these myself before. So, your videos will be helpful I am certain.

In the video you talk about how to teach people to create events that is certainly not “Pitch fests whos whole intention is just to sell you something and go into other programes. Were you might gleame litle bits of info,but you definitly dont leave with the whole picture” and events that are “just another marketing vehicle way to sell you something else”. Well to be honest, this sounds like a description of Video1 to me. Except for the “litle bits of info”. In ten minutes you didnt give a single clue or piece of information that in any way resembled with what you have declared and promised it would tell. I learned absolutely nothing. I am no very curious about wether the next videos really will be free as promised. If not ill certainly see this as a fraud and a pitch fest. Not very flatering for someone claiming to be a spiritual inspirator.

Thanks for great video, Max! I am in the process of designing my first series of transformative events, so I am excited to add your insights to my toolbox. I agree with you, that many events are now pitch-fests, but I will never do them (or attend them!) I only spend my money at events that have extreme substance and deep transformative value; thus, I will always give the same for my clients. I am really looking forward to learning the ins and outs of doing it right in a streamlined, lucrative manner! Thank you for being so transparent about the status of events in our world today, what is missing and what you will specifically support us in learning. The story goes that when the curtain dropped on the opening night of the musical “West Side Story” there wasn’t a sound to be heard from the audience. Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim were beside themselves as second after second passed without a sound. There paced desparately, assuming they had a disaster on their hands. After what must have seemed an eternity, someone finally started a soft clap. Then another person joined in. And before long the audience had gone crazy with one of the longest standing ovations in Broadway history.
Great work is often greeted by silence. And so it is with me.

I agree with the majority on here. Thank you for providing at least some things to think about while there are many people doing the rounds of seminars that occur frequently. I have attended many seminars and recently experienced one that talked a great deal about what the training would involve if they went, but didn’t give any clue for how to generate the income that it would require to pay for it. Another I went to last weekend that provided everyone with some tools they could use immediately to totally transform their thinking even if they never bought anything. Also, a great deal was given away during the weekend. I have seen various types of live events and am starting out myself to share my message to people so I really appreciate the opportunity to learn how to do it on a non existent budget etc. as I am a lone ranger at the moment. I look forward to hearing your messsage and am grateful in advance for the content you will provide.

I recently decided to play a bigger game by starting my live events with a one day in Oct. The desire to do live events has been in my heart since my first one as an attendee many years ago. I’m not waiting anymore regardless of what people say about filling a room in the is economy. The economy is not my source of abundance right?
As I thought today about what the costs might be and plan to visit spaces in NYC next week I wondered how much to budget. Being a shoestring marketer at this point I can’t imagine finding a more valuable offering than yours right now. And because you allowed me to get to know you a bit through video one I’m ready to trust the process and believe you are coming from love and not a hidden agenda. Do I expect to be offered something of value for an exchange of money at some point by you? Yes of course.

Hi Max, you certainly got me all excited about this, I love the idea of really giving value for money and not just a sales pitch. Even though I am in Spain, over 50, female and have no clue what I could be taking about, it still completely resonated with as if I found an answer to a question I did not know I had.

That’s really interesting! I organize myself such a live events, unfortunately only a very few people come to it!!!! In Greece, where I live, everybody would like to do workshops, etc, but they are not really willing to pay the price!!!! And, believe me, I had to put down my prices because there are many competitors out there selling their product for nothing!
So, how do I attract the right people for my workshops and how could I maintain the prices that I really feel are right for the knowledge and the experience I offer???

I only watched this because I was promised real content. It didn’t exactly deliver. It seemed a mockery since you were complaining about events that only talk about the “what” and not about the “how.” Will the next videos have “how” content, or will they just be selling, as likewise deplored?

I have been offering mortgage industry seminars and investment seminars since 1995 had as many as 150 in the room and loved it, never thought to make money at it it was to inform and then have the audience memebers chose to refer me mortgage business or come for a financial plan. i’m interested to find out how the expert says to do it since i’ve been winging it.

Very interesting video! I love live events, especially if I walk away with real info that I can apply immediately. I’m hosting 2 live events, one at the beach for a weekend. And the other is with a nationally known speaker, author, artist for a full day seminar. I would adore any info that would help me accomplish this on a shoestring budget!

What I didn’t understand, here, is what are you selling? Mentioned two things–”big ticket items” and “selling 30-50% of the audience.” What are the big ticket items and what are you selling?

What I mean when I say “big ticket items” is continuing education programs that you offer to people (at your event) so that they can keep learning and growing with you as a teacher. The reason they are called “big ticket” items is because they normally range from a few thousand dollars to $25,000, and can last for a few weeks or a whole year.
And when I say “sell 30-50% of the room”, I mean that I’m going to teach you how to convert that percentage of attendee’s into these next step clients…
All of this, and more, is coming to you in the next few videos!!!

Les Brown was headliner, Lynn Rose was the emcee and spoke as well, Bill Walsh was on stage as well as JEFF EBEN, Diana Wentworth, Lexi Welantez and myself. It was great experence and success in every catagory except financial. Could have used some advice from person with your background. I am curious to see your next few videos. I give my own workshops and seminars and in my early days of learning spent over $30,000 on seminars- many of them MAJOR pitchfests. I promised never to do that to my audience. But I realize that you have to do some advertising to your own audience because they are your best bet to return to hear you. Like the old saying- a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush. Your audience already knows, likes and trusts you. (Hopefully.)

I love live events, and am officially turning your video series into my personal “max simon” challenge. I am aiming for an event in Scottsdale in October, 2010. My challenge is going to be this: I am going to do everything you tell me to do in this video series. I am not going to ask any of the other biz coaches I use on input. Instead, I am going to see if I can pull this off only using the info you give out in your Free stuff. Let’s see what happens. Can it be done? Will there truly be that much content. I will report. I was excited by your page that stated the items that you would be discussing IN THIS VIDEO of 18 minutes. I did not see any of those items* mentioned in this video at all, and it was not the length specified. I am willing to check out what the next video holds. However, I now have a huge skepticism, since you have not kept your promise. If you were not going to deliver what you said, why offer it? What separates you from the people you are supposedly venting about? You could have just said you were offering a SERIES. It feels very unclean to me. Particularly since that is what you are touting as being the negative wave of events marketing these days…

If you’ve ever created videos before, you start with one idea and they often morph into another. We started with the intention to give this content away in the FIRST video….and then realized it would be a VERY LONG video. So this info is EXACTLY what you will get in video #2, which coming soon.
Unfortunately, there was no time left to go back and re-do the opt-in video so we had to go live with it, knowing that it wasn’t 100% accurate.

I noticed as I was scrollomg down the page some of us are just waiting for YOUR attempt to pull us into your ‘sales funnel’ & others feel disheartened by the lack of Tons of info in this vid all at once…
While skepticism is natural for some (we are simply human after all!)… on a ‘success scale’, if we allow our ‘inner chatterbox’ to influence an opportunity to Learn all that we can about what brought us here in the first place surely we’d be ripping ourselves off?
I’ve heard we have the ability to process just 7 chunks of information at any time. If it’s true we delete, distort & generalise anything not congruent with what we choose/need to focus on, then Surely you have done us a favour in preventing our Overload resulting in Overwhelm & Very Little Success by pacing the content you wish to share?!
In regard to comments about you possiblly attempting to ‘sell’ to us, in my personal experience those most resistant are usually those who know they make their buying decisions based on impulse.!. Back on track… Does most of what we want in life come without an investment of some sort… time, money or otherwise?…
Ulimately the buying decision would be made by our own desire… Is it enough for us to move forward with the content you provided for ‘free’ or do we wish to maximise our own potential by investing money And time to learn all we can from you & hopefully gain the tools we need to succeed in less time & with less mistakes?!

Interesting. I have been told that I give way too much ‘how’ at my live events and don’t do enough ‘back of room’ sales. I have beed told just to give the ‘why’, honestly, I am frustrated because it used to be that you went to a seminar to learn somthing and I think people are jaded and everyone I know is having a hard time filling a room, myself included. I want my clients to walk away with soemthing tangible that they can put to use immedialtely. Interested to see what you have to say…. but sadly, waiting for the pitch at the end.

There is something going on in group consciousness currently
that calls us to connect in groups, a deep soul’s calling to

How group events are organized does infuse the meaning
and purpose of the events, I absolutely agree. Being conscious
on all levels of how an event is formatted infuses the final

I would suggest getting a little more experimental in

event I would personally seek to infuse a musical and

When I was 20 until I was 25 I was part of the leading youth that organized the events at the seminars and lead workshops for children 5 to youth up to 25. It was one of the best time I had in my life and I am gratiful for you as this has reinspired me. BUT.. yes,, i have the same doubts. Even now, I am in debt, job hunting, and thinking.. wouldnt it be great if i could do this now!? Wouldnt it be great if i could take a loan and …. but reality hovers above and i say to myself, get a job first, save the money first, pay your debts first…

I have a hard time “selling” myself to people because I hate when people are trying to sell to me even when it’s a soft sell. This is something that is holding me back and I would love to find a way to get over it.
I live in the UK and do seminars, workshops, retreats, spiritual journeys etc and would love to know how to make them all sell out events. I am always told I give too much away especially at free talks but I just want to help people live as richly rewarding life as I do. To this first video, which I was expecting
to go into the content that had been promised,
I had the same reaction voiced by some others…
“okay, I’m motivated already… where’s the beef?”
(I did like the stuff about your story)
And it raised the concern that you might be modeling
the marketing behavior you’d been complaining about
(said complaints had me responding out loud to my
screen: “Yeah!!” cuz I’m sick of the pitchfests).
But I really appreciate you for encouraging honest
feedback, and your candid, non-defensive responses.
And I get that the first video ended up being an
intro, which isn’t what you’d originally planned.
And yet, for me, the question remains: How will
you harmonize your claimed aversion to the current
trend of marketing-rich events with having one of
the “two primary areas of focus in this program”
being “how to authentically and powerfully sell
from the stage so that people invest in your
big-ticket next steps.” Is this not a bit of
a contradiction?
I have this concern (particularly since the

Sounds very intriguing. The economy has me looking at ways to increase my household income. I am a retired teacher and I’ve been looking for a venue to put my experience and skills back to work. I love teaching and I prefer working with small groups, so you have my interest. I know you can do more interactive content and provide very unique experiences for all participants in small intimate settings. I like doing take-away activities that students can teach to others. To me that’s more valuable than just buying a bunch of books and audios.
I look forward to learning more about how you structure your live events. You would be providing a very valuable resource for me.
I already do seminars and retreats that are small. I want to produce larger events and really grow my retreats in Costa Rica and Mexico.

Once again, thanks for a great tool. It has been so helpful for me to write down these concepts to encourage me about charging what my events are truly worth. In the past I knew I needed to charge but battled feeling guilty and usually sold tickets for less than they were worth and like you said, I got a lot of the wrong crowd who didn’t understand the value of the material or experience. Not only have your videos been a good teaching tool and are also a confidence booster.
