What’s your experience / opinion people’s willingness to pay for a live event, if it would be the first “product” they bought from you. Do you think customers tend to want to buy a few products at various price points first, and essentially work their way up to buying a high-priced ticket to the live event?

I am glad i kept my heart open pal. The video had content and it was in fact for free. Ill give you a lot of credit for sharing very openly. You seem rather honest man. I have been putting on both big, and deep and narrow events, and didnt really feel it revealed so many secrets to me. But it still felt inspiring and honest. Like coming from your heart. Especially ill give you credit for beeing brave in sharing all you got-your strategies- without fearing competition. Most of us have a lot to learn in that context. Looking forward to next video.

Thank you, Max! You know what feels good to me about this? I actually trust you. This is extremely uncommon for me with anyone marketing anything on the web. I mean, it’s never happened before. It took me a while, but I kept listening and signing up for whatever you were emailing out, and now I feel it. And I don’t think it’s just from familiarity. You are straightforward about your motives, and you are yourself, and I believe that you are truly coming from that place of authenticity that you talk about. I appreciate you for being a little “geeky” (right word?) sometimes because I see how excited you are, and I feel like it gives me permission to just be myself, too! There is the possibility that I don’t have to switch into a “persona” in order to do things in the world or to be a leader in a larger sense. I relate to your enthusiasm and I love what you are proposing. For me, it translates into the melding of two worlds: the energetic, sensitive and authentic world that I consider my home, and the world of reaching out farther, allowing my light to shine, giving and receiving the gifts of interfacing with groups of people. Wonderful video, Max! It had more content than I expected. I especially benefited from the unique venue ideas (now have more creativity in lining my venues up for this summer), the attributes of the best speaker match (doesn’t seem so daunting to approach people) and the pep talk throughout that it is not only possible, but doable without being more stress than other business offerings. Granted, and the world is a better place because of it, you made conscious choices to embrace these mentors and social networks (and now look at your passion and wisdom). “But” many times passion and wisdom needs the right connections, the right people and ample resources.

Yet here’s the truth. There is only ONE THING that ever matters for your success…and that is your PASSION to create something GREAT. With this energy, it really makes no difference where you come from or what kind of life experience you have.
In fact, sometimes the “uglier” the background, the better the story.

I have been doing this for 7 years now, speaking, and it has been a process releasing some of what I was told to do by some of the inauthentic speakers over time. It got to the point where I was not enjoying it because of how I had to be on stage, of never feeling I was good enough because I did not vibe with what they wanted me to do. Love the music !
;) Good humorous touches. I like the way the
video subtly increases in color and graphic touches, which enhances
the message/content as you build from the simple set of premises
you are developing in the video. (I would suggest more
graceful panning in for close ups !)
Good synergy in supporting alternative, small businesses who
are looking for ways to promote their own unique visions, and
stepping away from homogeneous corporate culture. This is a great
ethical choice. Another nice point: celebrity names don’t have
intrinsic value, it’s people energetically connecting with who
you are as a unique individual not based on your reputation
or who you know.
This is a good method of getting beyond the cult of celebrity
and refocusing on meaningful connection (and it is the direction
our western culture needs to go).
I have been considering how there has been a developing
energetic play between the interchange of the role of student
and teacher which encourages openness to learning new things,
and acts as a way of building confidence.
It also takes the pressure of the individual having to be the
charismatic and ego-centric guru for everyone else.
I am really impressed with the intelligence of this system
on various levels. It has integrity in who it benefits from
the clients to the support (venues and planners) to the guest
speakers.
I would continue pushing the theme that it is small groups,
and individuals interacting in energetic ways (and so healthy
to do so in person at events!) that are going to bring about
sweeping changes in social, economic, spiritual, and environmental
consciousness (and consequently) world events. It’s a vitally
important time for individuals to claim there authentic and
individual power in order to catalyze sweeping change.
There are qualities activating in people
that have been asleep in us for a long time, levels of
awareness, ways we are connecting through all our faculties
to the world around us that so many of us are just beginning
to understand. It is such an exciting time to interact and
share these awakening gifts !

I totally get you…
Narrow and Deep vs Big and Flashy
I’ve done plenty of each, both as attendee, and as the AudioVisual producer for events….and although there is definitely a big thrill with ‘Big and Flashy’…with loadsa lights, rockin’ sound systems and tons of jump up pump up vibe…the small, intimate events are usually the most satisfying all round for those on stage and also in the ‘audience’…
There are a few real Masters who can do Big and Flashy AND create a real feel of connection and intimacy in a massive room….with everyone hanging on the edge of their seat…moved to tears….not able to leave the room for hours whilsy watching and engaging in incredible transformation…but those Masters are few and far between…
Much better are the smaller events, where you can almost reach out and touch the speakers…and everyone gets to know everyone else in that small space and intimate environment.
And as for hotels vs. cool way out venues…. I’ve spent way too many weekends running or attending events in impersonal luxury hotels and left feeling somehow incomplete… and many events in somewhere with the most basic facilities which were simply magic because of the authenticity of those in the room.

Some very inteesting stuff here, thanks.
A couple of points: if you suffer from migraines,as I do, the constant jumping in and out of the frame is almost a deal-breaker. I had to close my eyes just to continue with the videos & therefore missing most of the images my partner told me where there. (Close my eyes, or spend the next two days in a darkened room with hallucinations!)
The other thing is that the music is very distracting: I want to hear what you are saying & the music gets in the way. I am only 37, by the way, but I found it so frustrating. You have such good content, I wanted peace and quiet to take it in.

Thanks so much. What perfect timing as I had been asking my spirit guides for help to take me to the next level, everything that you were mentioning about finding a team and tribe. All my students and clients are always telling me how great I am, I think that as you said many of us have so much to offer, but get intimidated by all the big names and productions. I sometimes forget my point and get off track and still people come up and tell me how much they got out of it. What I’ve learned is that each and everyone of us has our own unique audience that resonate with what we have to share. So thanks for sharing and also saying that who you are added credibility for me.
I do have a question as to what type of payment arrangements do you make with your speakers? If the event is small and you have a few speakers then how do you make enough money on a small event of let’s say 25-50 people?

I have two different offerings. One is much more expensive than the other and I am still building the infrastructure for it so that it works once the program is launched. So, what is your experience with a modest priced program doubling in value for the next step?

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been learning about how to become a speaker and do my own events. I’ve tried a couple times to fill my room without much success. I wanted to come from a place of authenticity but I found it difficult as I was told “it wouldn’t sell”. Until I heard you. I felt that I found what I was looking for and it clicked for me – the merging of our spirit and authenticity, with sound marketing strategies – and not negating one for the other.
You have given me reason to feel very inspired and excited about moving forward again with doing my own live events. I’m so looking forward now to making a difference in people’s lives while as before, I was more immersed in filling the room with a feeling of dread and insecurity. It was all about energy – and you helped me re-connect.

I have head some not so good experiences with some people in this country who immediately after hearing me comment: “Oh, you have an accent. Where do you come from?” They hardly comment on what I have said, but are either intrigued or put off by my African accent. How can I overcome this “prejudice” in so many people in this country who think that an African does not have much to offer? This kind of prejudice makes me hesitate to put on live events because many will not come knowing that an African is putting on the event. How do we overcome this?

You’ve busted so many myths for me. One really big one is the number of attendees… What a relief to know I can have 20-70 people at the event and be successful! I also really love knowing that facilitating experiential exercises is a big part of what makes seminars impactful! One of my favourite things is facilitating interaction and intimacy in groups:)

Just watched your video clip and once again your insight is right on. I truly believe integrity, quality and personal connection with your attendees is the key to success. After doing large multi-day event for over 15 years and having people walk away with information without the tools to apply the information personally got tiresome for me. I just did my first event on my own and marketed it for 50 people and thought I was nervous as to whether it would even go, I sold out with a waiting list. Attendees were surprised that I didn’t take everyone since the room would hold more people but when I told them that I valued their experience more than numbers they felt valued, honored and appreciated all the more. My questionaires came back with great responses and were truly affirming to me personally which showed me that keeping to my initial number left a positive experience for them and they want to know about my future events. I am already getting great testimonies on facebook and email which is the best marketing one can ever get. Thanks again for the sound advice.

I thought it was not a big succes in old days as I had only 14 – 35 participants – definitely not creating an income to live from, so I returned to my “safe job” as a Management Consultant.

Great Video Series, Max. I’ve long offered events, primarily retreats and workshops. The challenge of filling these events has always been a bit stressful. You have reminded me of what it truly requires to succeed with my seminars and conferences.
I have our 3rd Awaken women International Conference coming up on the 16th-17th October and people kept saying it is a bit late in promoting it now. My answer is rubbish. I am just going to follow through and continue promoting it online as well as offline with our flyers and other campaigns. My focus is to have 100 attendees. After the first conference in 2006, I decided to look for a much easier and less expensive venu instead of hotels. We have found a good middle ground for our event and I am taking care of the organisation together with a handful of helpers.
I am sure that our event will be successful as I want to reach out to as many women as possible with my message on “Intuition”

I am extremely impressed by your sincerity. Just from watching a few of your videos, you are very inspiring. I have been wanting to hold seminars that are more heart felt, intimate…which is more me…to really touch deeper in the souls of others so they can really see that they can fall in love with themselves. However, I felt that people may not reply. So, I hold small classes at my wellnes center with “information” that I feel they may value. While this information is beneficial, I feel my heart is even more powerful at motivating people at truly enjoying life. This coming week, I am going to put together a heart felt seminar and put it out there in the world and see how its received. This is because of watching this video…it was inspiring.
